BOOKING & CAMP POLICIES

Last updated: 12 October 2026

We're a small camp with only nine sites, so a single cancellation can leave a camp empty that another family would have loved to book. These terms are here to keep things fair for everyone. We've written them in plain language — if anything is unclear, WhatsApp David before you book and he'll talk you through it.

At a glance

  • A 50% deposit secures your camp.
  • The balance is due 30 days before arrival in season and peak season, and 20 days before arrival out of season.
  • Peak and in-season cancellations within 30 days, and out-of-season cancellations within 20 days, are non-refundable.
  • No refunds for no-shows, early departures or ordinary bad weather.
  • Caravan air-conditioners are not permitted.
  • No smoking or vaping inside the glamping camp or the ablutions.
  • Travel insurance is strongly recommended.

1. Reserving your camp

  • Your written quotation is valid for 48 hours.
  • A 50% deposit and proof of payment secure your camp.
  • Your booking is confirmed once the payment reflects in our account and we've sent you written confirmation. Until then, the camp is not held for you.
  • In season and peak season (including public-holiday weekends), the balance is due 30 days before arrival.
  • Out of season, the balance is due 20 days before arrival.
  • If you book inside the balance period — for example, three weeks before a peak arrival — the full amount is due when you book.
  • If a payment isn't received by its due date, we'll let you know in writing. If it still isn't received, we may cancel the booking and release the camp.

2. Cancelling an out-of-season stay

These terms apply to stays in our Out of Season period.

Written cancellation receivedAmount we retain
31 days or more before arrival10% of the total booking
21 to 30 days before arrival50% of the total booking
0 to 20 days before arrival100% of the total booking
No-show or early departure100% of the total booking

3. Cancelling an in-season or peak stay

These terms apply to stays in our In Season and Peak periods, including the December and January holidays, Easter and any public-holiday weekend.

Written cancellation receivedAmount we retain
61 days or more before arrival20% of the total booking
31 to 60 days before arrival50% of the total booking
0 to 30 days before arrival100% of the total booking
No-show or early departure100% of the total booking

An example. A peak stay costing R10,000, cancelled 70 days before arrival. You'll have paid the R5,000 deposit. We retain 20% of the total — R2,000 — and refund R3,000, less any bank charges.

4. Changing your dates

We know plans change. We'll consider one date change per booking if you ask:

  • at least 30 days before an in-season or peak arrival, or
  • at least 20 days before an out-of-season arrival.

A few conditions:

  • Your new stay must take place within 12 months, and depends on availability.
  • What you've paid carries forward as a credit. If your new dates cost more, you pay the difference.
  • Credit can't be exchanged for cash or passed to someone else without our written agreement.
  • A peak booking can't be moved into another peak period without our written agreement.
  • Shortening your stay or reducing your party counts as a partial cancellation, and the cancellation terms above apply to the part you cancel.

5. Weather, roads and the border

Camping is an outdoor experience, and part of the charm of Ponta is that it's a little wild.

  • Rain, wind, cold, the usual sandy roads, vehicle trouble, traffic and ordinary border queues don't qualify for a refund.
  • If the border is officially closed, or an official authority legally prevents access to Ponta, we'll offer you a credit valid for 12 months.
  • If we can't provide the camp you booked, we'll offer you alternative dates, an equivalent camp, or a refund for the nights we couldn't provide.

We strongly recommend travel insurance that covers cancellation and travel disruption.

6. How refunds work

All cancellations and change requests must be in writing, by WhatsApp or email:
WhatsApp: +258 85 401 8595
Email: david@pontalocaltable.com

  • The date we receive your written request is the date we use for the tables above.
  • Approved refunds are processed within 7 to 10 business days.
  • Refunds go back to the person or account that paid, wherever practical.
  • Bank, card, foreign-exchange and transfer charges may be deducted.
  • Refunds are calculated on the rand amount we actually received.

7. Breakage deposit — glamping camp only

There's no security deposit for our campsites.

Our glamping camp carries a R1,000 refundable breakage deposit, paid with your balance. We refund it after checking the camp when you leave, less any documented damage, missing items or exceptional cleaning.

8. Power and air-conditioners

  • Every camp has a 220 V, 5 amp power point for low-draw equipment.
  • Caravan air-conditioners are not permitted.
  • Appliances with heating elements — kettles, heaters, air fryers, microwaves — and generators can't be used on the camp supply.

9. Smoking and fire safety

For the comfort and safety of all our guests, smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited inside the glamping camp and inside the ablution facilities.

Smoking is permitted outdoors, as long as it's done responsibly and with care for the bush around us.

Camp David sits in a natural bush environment, where preventing fire matters to everyone. We kindly ask you to:

  • Braai responsibly. Bonfires aren't permitted on the camps — a safe communal fire area is provided instead.
  • Put cigarettes out completely and dispose of the butts responsibly.
  • Never drop cigarette butts in the sand or the surrounding bush.
  • Take particular care when smoking near reed roofing, shade cloth, canvas and other flammable materials.

Any damage caused by smoking — including burns, smoke odours that need specialist cleaning, or damage to furniture, bedding or structures — will be charged to the guest responsible. At the glamping camp, reasonable cleaning, repair or replacement costs may be deducted from the breakage deposit; anything beyond the deposit remains the guest's responsibility.

Thank you for helping us keep Camp David safe, fresh and beautiful for everyone who comes to enjoy our little piece of paradise.
